The Education System's Priorities

"The school system is designed to teach obedience and conformity and prevent the child’s natural capacities from developing." -- Noam Chomsky

What are our countries priorities when it comes to the education system? They are, in this order:

  1. sit in your seat;
  2. shut up;
  3. pass the test; and
  4. learn.

You may think this to merely be an opinion, but it is actually a provable fact. The proof goes like this:

  • 1 > 3 : You can go to jail if you are not in your seat (truancy), but not for failing a test.
  • 2 > 3 : You can get detention for being verbally disruptive in class, but not for failing a test.
  • 1 > 2 : Going to jail is a harsher form of incarceration than detention.
  • 3 > 4 : You get penalized if you fail the test, but not if you fail to learn.
There it is: proof that learning is the last thing that our education system cares about.

Need more proof? Look at the U.S. Federal budget and rank all the areas where our tax dollars are being spent and look at where education spending lies. That will tell you exactly where education ranks in priority among those that have been leading this country.

"No man who worships education has got the best out of education... Without a gentle contempt for education no man's education is complete." -- Gilbert K. Chesterton
